  • Hello and Welcome!

Come on in... here you’ll find bits and bobs about us, The Larmours, our life, where we live, what we do, and most of all, about our biggest shared family passion – our travels. This is a record for us, a place for us to share pictures and ramblings on what we’ve done and where we’ve been, but you’ll find occasional blethering about other things too.

We met in Hong Kong, and since then have lived and worked all over Asia before settling in China, where our Saffy arrived and then moving to the UAE where Indy joined us. Since we met we’ve travelled – since we married we’ve been on an adventure – since we had kids it hasn’t stopped… ultimately, all our small travels were preparation for the big one – that one day we hoped to take – a gap year, a sabbatical, a break from the daily grind – and starting 2014 we took off on it..... across the world, and then on a road trip that has taken us to three continents so far.....

Grab a cup of tea and come exploring with us,
Kirsty, Tommy, Saffy and Indy xxxx

Letter because Saffy Learnt to Swim!

So while we were in Shanghai this summer we girls hung out at the pool a couple of times a week. Saffy’s always been been pretty water confident but even though she’s had swimming lessons at school this last year she still couldn’t swim – anyway, it just suddenly clicked – one day she was doing 1 stroke, and the next she was doing 6 and then she was swimming the whole way across the baby pool!!!

By the time we got to Cambodia she was jumping in and swimming under water – I was stunned by how quickly it all just came together. So here’s a few proud Mummy videos strung together of her doing her swim thing!

Nai Nai and Ye Ye

Well done, Saffy: Nai Nai and Ye Ye say they wish that they could swim underwater like you. You will have to teach them when they visit you in November!

The country where we live

A little insight into the other main city in the country where we live.  (originally posted at www.kirstylarmourblog.com)

Happy 39th National Day! I hope you’re all having a fantastic day and enjoying all the festivities.

We don’t get an awful lot of free time in our family, what with me working weekends, but a couple of weeks ago my hubby had exams in Dubai and we all went up and after his exams had finished spent some time being tourists in the country where we live – I loved it – it was a blissful half day shaking off the stresses of life in the U.A.E and soaking some of the atmosphere of the country instead.

Shunning the glitz and glamour side of the city we spent most of the time down by Dubai creek, exploring the souks, riding the abras and eating good Middle Eastern food.

I swear I didn’t put them both in flat caps that day – they did that all by themselves (the little accessories divas that they are!!) but it does add to that kind of stepping back in time feel of the pictures!! The look like they could be in Oliver! The girls were delighted to find Indigo and Saffron on sale in the spice souk!!! They thought it hilarious that stall holders kept calling their names, and equally stall holders were intrigued to find out the girls’ names!Shoes, I can never resist shoes and pictures like this take me back to how I started off with travel photography. The girls made friends as we passed through the souk!

My favourite shoe shot of the day!

I think I should tout her out to Monsoon for shots like this!!Saffy exchanging her own head wear for something more local!!! Although to be honest I’ve never seen a local lady wearing a pink beaded headdress!! (Emirati friends, please confess if you really do have something like this in your wardrobe!!) Pre National Day preparations!Stopping at a juice stall…My happy girls!

A last look across the creek, and back in time… mosque minarets, windtowers and dhows….

Before a last trip back across on an abra….

I loved seeing Dubai thought the eyes of a tourist… hope you’re enjoying your day too, Kirsty x

Eid 2010

Eid Mubarak to you all. I hope everyone’s having a wonderful celebration – and those of you who received orders this week to give out as Eid presents are being met with ooohs and aaahs at how gorgeous your families are!

I’m away this weekend with my family – these are a few snaps of my photographic subjects this weekend – something of a change from normal for me!!! Don’t forget the Ramadan Promotion runs until tomorrow – let me know if you are interested in purchasing a beautiful canvas (or 2 or 3) either from a previous session in 2010, or if you have a future session scheduled.

Lots more Abu Dhabi gorgeousness to come soon – and much more pretty than these (oh but aren’t those sand gazelles so cute?), Kirsty xx
