  • Hello and Welcome!

Come on in... here you’ll find bits and bobs about us, The Larmours, our life, where we live, what we do, and most of all, about our biggest shared family passion – our travels. This is a record for us, a place for us to share pictures and ramblings on what we’ve done and where we’ve been, but you’ll find occasional blethering about other things too.

We met in Hong Kong, and since then have lived and worked all over Asia before settling in China, where our Saffy arrived and then moving to the UAE where Indy joined us. Since we met we’ve travelled – since we married we’ve been on an adventure – since we had kids it hasn’t stopped… ultimately, all our small travels were preparation for the big one – that one day we hoped to take – a gap year, a sabbatical, a break from the daily grind – and starting 2014 we took off on it..... across the world, and then on a road trip that has taken us to three continents so far.....

Grab a cup of tea and come exploring with us,
Kirsty, Tommy, Saffy and Indy xxxx

At the Temple – Chennai, India

Sometimes when we travel I work too – it’s kind of fun to work with what’s thrown at you and to think on the fly. It also challenges my photography as I want to capture the kids really enjoying the environment, yet also showing off what I’ve been tasked to photograph – the next two posts were originally posted on my work blog at www.kirstylarmourblog.com as they were work assignments but I love both sets for different reasons, and they’re the kids on our travels so I’m sharing them here too 🙂

I mentioned in my January Project 10 (a photography project I’m involved in this year) that we’d just come back from India. We spent a couple of days in Chennai, a wonderful, vibrant city in the south, before we headed over to the amazing Andaman Islands. I feel so lucky that my kids have taken to travelling so incredibly well, that they’re fascinated by the things they see and hear and smell and eat and that they approach it all with enthusiasm and interest – it makes taking them places and travelling so much easier, not to mention more fun!!

We visited a Hindu temple in Chennai, and the girls loved the colours and the statues of the Gods, and the space, and the fact that there were lots of cows hanging around….

And I loved that Indy had chosen to wear this dress that she loves so much by Courtney Courtney… how fabulously does it go with the vibrancy of the temple? The painted mandalas on the floor were perfect for doing twirls in in Indy’s opinion!! I think she wore this dress nearly every day on holiday – although to be fair, she did change about 5 times every day!!!

I keep saying more travel stories coming soon… the reality is the spinning plates of running a business and running a home and bringing up kids and doing the school run/parties/doctors visits/dancing classes etc etc means I rarely get around to editing pictures of my family, and my kids doing the things we love the most… my 2012 resolution is to stop work at a reasonable hour and to do more for us, to help preserve our family memories too, to edit pictures, just like these, of my sweetie pie, enthralled by somewhere we travelled to – so maybe, just maybe, you’ll get to see us in Cambodia, and Bangkok and on some of our other 2011 travels soon, 😉

Kirsty xx

So beautiful!!! India must have been so magical!

Indy looks beautiful in her colorful dress – she’s going to be such an intelligent girl and already looks so mature!

Happy Travels!

Late postcards from China to celebrate the new year

(Originally posted at www.kirstylarmourblog.com)

We celebrate Chinese New Year in our household – it’s really important to celebrate with our little Chinese girl, who wouldn’t ever let us forget it!!

Yesterday, for Chinese New Years eve the girls got to dress up in their special qipao’s and perform at a CNY dinner – I had such a proud Mummy moment as they bravely stood in front of 200 strangers and sang away in their second language and received the hugest cheer 🙂

I thought in celebration of Chinese New Year it’d be fun to share some pictures from when the girls and I spent a month in Shanghai last summer…..

I really can’t believe I never edited these till now…

This was in a little, quite touristy, water town on the outskirts of Shanghai….

2 little blonde girls in Chinese dresses attracted loads of people who wanted to take their photos… but they handled it all very well and they enjoyed playing on the stage and having fun with their beloved jie jie and mei mei (big sister and little sister) dolls (which came from an adorable little shop in our former hometown, Guangzhou called A Gift from China – their proceeds go supporting Chinese orphans and we have numeous items from there including jie jie and mei mei rucksacks which come on all our travels with us!)They don’t get many occasions to wear their Chinese dresses so they wore them again for their performance yesterday 🙂 The dresses came from an adorable little boutique in Shanghai called Chou Chou Chic

Xin nian kuai le 新年快乐, gong xi fa cai 恭喜发财, or for all my Hong Kong friends Kung Hei Fat Choi – hope you all have a wonderful year of the dragon!

Kirsty xx

Those dresses are beyond cute! Love this set, I love the mood and the colors!!

Letter to say 新年快乐 Happy Chinese New Year

I’m missing China today – I love chun jie, the traditions, the food, the festive spirit, the firecrackers, the fireworks, the dancing, the singing, the craziness on the streets and the not being able to get a train anywhere even…. I love the the fact it takes over and everyone’s a part of it… celebrations in Abu Dhabi are much more subdued and tend to be conducted in peoples homes behind closed doors. Chinese New Year in China, or even in Hong Kong, just hits you in the face!!!

Saffy loves to celebrate Chinese New Year – she feels such an afinity for China – Indy too but not to the same extent but they know it’s something, a part of their make up and they love to sing Chinese songs and have dumpings and other favourite foods to celebrate. We have decorations up around the house too.

I need to find some time to go back through some past Chinese New Year pictures and post – but for now, here’s some goldfish to bring you luck and money for the following year – Happy New Year of the dragon.

xx
